White teeth What the Modern Sports Person Needs to know

There are few bigger industries than the sports industry. It is one that continues to grow and with the regular events on a continental and global scale there are constant opportunities for sponsorship and those all important image rights. There is big money in sport these days; one only has to look at the amount of corporate boxes in all of the new stadiums to get an overview of this fact. Therefore, sports people have had to become aware commercially as well as physically.

In the good old days, sport was all about taking part, in the days that followed just after sport quickly became all about winning, then there was winning in style and now we seem to be heading back towards taking part – but taking part wearing your sponsors kit and drinking whatever drink you are currently promoting. There is no doubt advertising is here to stay in sport and there is no doubt money has helped move many sports on over the years, it is here to stay and is now part of the sporting world.

Many sports people are seen as role models and live their lives in the public eye. This is fine for some, but there are those who don’t enjoy the limelight. For example, many sportsmen and women will be hunted down by photographers at every turn, featured in papers and magazines on a daily basis and now with the popularity of the Internet and smart phones they can often be captured on video and broadcast on the net within minutes.

There are tricks and tips they use to maintain a level of appearance, much like movie stars who suffer the same amount of attention. Those with teeth that are not aligned perfectly and require braces for example, will often choose to wear invisible, clear braces as opposed to the more traditional metal braces, much in the same way many will choose contact lenses over glasses. For women, one of the most popular ‘tricks’ is to have permanent make-up applied. This make-up is often centred on the eye or lip area and is permanent, meaning it doesn’t run or rub-off mid-game and that it is also perfect for those after-match press conferences.

Whether the commercial presence in sport is a good thing or not is becoming largely irrelevant, the important thing for those who make a living from professional sport is to not be naive to what is going on around them. In no way, shape or form is appearance ever going to make up for skill, but it could be the difference between being remembered for your sporting achievements and not an unflattering photograph or the difference between a sponsorship deal with a big brand or not. Sporting careers are short and therefore it makes sense to do everything possible to make the most of it while you can.
